State House of Representatives passes Milledgeville-Baldwin County unification bill

ATLANTA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Voters in Milledgeville and Baldwin County are one step closer to deciding if they want a unified government.

State Representative Rusty Kidd tells 41NBC the Georgia House of Representatives voted 146 to 9 in favor of House Bill 67. Kidd’s bill would unify the Milledgeville and Baldwin County governments into one entity.

Kidd says this is giving the people of that community to right to vote and make their own decision regarding their government.

Last month, Milledgeville City Council sent two letters to its state legislators telling them council members do not want a unified government.

Kidd expects the bill will be assigned to a senate committee this week. He hopes it will pass there, go to the governor’s desk quickly for his signature, and then become a referendum for voters to decide.
