SPARTA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- A statewide listening tour focused on voter issues will make a stop in Sparta this weekend, giving residents a chance to take part in discussions about issues impacting their communities.
Black Voters Matter announced it will hold a series of events across Georgia beginning April 16, aimed at hearing directly from voters across the state.
Sparta event details
The tour will stop in Sparta on Saturday, April 18, at the Hancock County Youth Center, located at 12560 Augusta Highway.
Organizers say the Sparta stop will include voter registration opportunities from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. as part of the “It Takes a Village” Resource Expo.
A community listening session and Voting Rights Act education event is also scheduled from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the same location.
Tour focuses on local concerns
The four-day tour includes stops in Augusta, Savannah, Quitman, Sparta, Columbus, and Griffin.
According to organizers, the goal is to center the voices of Black and rural voters and better understand issues facing underrepresented communities.
Topics include voting access, redistricting, and local concerns such as utility costs, development impacts, and community governance.
Organizers say the listening sessions are part of an effort to connect everyday concerns to upcoming elections and encourage civic engagement.
The tour is part of the group’s “We Got Us” campaign, which focuses on outreach and voter engagement across the state.
