Southwest’s softball coach gets honored at Wednesday’s game against Rutland

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Southwest High School’s long-time softball coach was honored at tonight’s game against Rutland.  Chantay Edwards, who is also a teacher at Ballard-Hudson Middle School in Macon, has been battling cancer.  Players from both teams also cheered her on while she threw out the first pitch.

“Oh, it’s just overwhelming. To be honored by, you know, another school at their home game, by your opponent, it’s just overwhelming,” expresses Edwards.

Edwards has been the head coach of the Southwest Patriots softball team since 1999 and she has been teaching for 28 years.

Amanda Maddox, the head coach of the Rutland softball team, tells 41NBC this event was her idea.
