Snow likely for Middle Georgia Tuesday

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A gulf low pressure system will bring some snow to Middle Georgia over the back half of Tuesday.
This Evening and Tonight
A clear and chilly afternoon will give way to an even colder night that will see cloud cover increase as it goes on. Expect temperatures to drop into the low to mid 20s not long after midnight tonight. These will begin to slowly warm heading towards the sunrise Tuesday to where wake up temperatures should largely be in the upper 20s and lower 30s. Ambient wind will generally flow from the north at around 5-10 mph. While it is unlikely, an isolated snow shower or two cannot be ruled out for the southern counties of the region tonight.
Tomorrow
Cloudy skies are expected at wakeup along with temperatures near or just below the freezing point. These will rise into the mid to upper 30s ahead of lunchtime before precipitation starts in the late afternoon. A Winter Storm Warning will be in effect for all Middle Georgia Counties except Hancock from 10 am Tuesday morning until 7 am Wednesday morning. Hancock County is under a Winter Weather Advisory for the same time frame.
While a wintry mix will be possible initially, all precipitation will turn to snow as the sun sets and temperatures drop. Roads will likely begin to see impacts ahead of the suppertime hours, so Middle Georgians need to get their prep done ahead of time.
Overnight snowfall will slow and eventually subside by around midnight. With temperatures plunging into the teens and lower 20s roads will be icy and snowy heading into the start of Wednesday. Dripping of the faucets will also be essential to avoid plumbing disasters. Snowfall totals across the region should remain under 4 inches in the heaviest spots. Most of the region should receive less than 2 inches.
