(CNN)- A small plane crash in DeKalb County narrowly avoided after experiencing engine trouble just miles from the runway.
The call came in shortly after 9:30 a.m. along Sudbury Road, where neighbors reported hearing loud, unusual noises before the crash.
Roxy Barlow says she was still in bed when she heard what sounded like a failing engine.
“I woke up to this sound like a whoooong, brrrr,” Barlow said. “Then I heard crashing — like trees breaking — and I jumped up.”
Moments later, she realized a small aircraft had gone down between two homes. DeKalb County Fire Rescue says the twin-engine Beechcraft was flying from Miami to DeKalb-Peachtree Airport when it experienced engine trouble.
“They hit pine trees about 80 to 90 feet up and basically came straight down between two houses,” said Battalion Chief Kevin Cavanaugh. “No structures were involved.”
Officials say the two people on board were able to walk away from the crash.
The FAA is expected to investigate the cause of the crash.
