Sheriff’s office opens community center

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is working hard to serve the community’s younger generation. They have opened their first community center in Bellevue.

The Bellevue Community Center is located on 1222 Water Oak Ct. The center is aimed for children to have a safe and healthy environment in their community.

It was Sheriff David Davis’ vision to create the center and with the help of the Sheriff’s Outreach Section, the vision became a reality.

Deputy Amber Giltz oversees the Bellevue Community Center and says the center is made for “our future leaders.”

“It’s aimed at kids, but it’s open to all the community to bring them involved,” Deputy Giltz said. “Kids have parents and we want the parents up here involved with crafts and helping guide kids in the right direction.”

The community center has different recreational rooms for kids to play and learn about crime prevention and being drug free.

The Sheriff’s office believes that they can be a positive guide for kids in the community.

“It’s just kind of a way to be that ‘mentor-ship’, be that positive role model, that vision that Sheriff Davis wanted for all of us, is to be here and help fill that gap,” said Deputy Giltz.

Kids are able to visit the center Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 PM – 5:00 PM. They are also open every other Saturday.

The Sheriff’s office takes “pride” in what they do.
“We have a lot of pride in our community. And PRIDE stands for Presence, Reaction, Interaction, Deterrence, and Excellence. And that is our goal.- to have PRIDE in every little action that we do,” Deputy Giltz.

The Bellevue Community Center is open as of this week and encourages the community to volunteer.
