Sheriff: 2 Macon men arrested after trying to smuggle prohibited items into Washington State Prison with drone
Two Macon men are facing felony charges after deputies say they tried to use a drone to smuggle contraband into Washington State Prison late Friday night.

DAVISBORO, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Two Macon men are facing felony charges after the Washington County Sheriff’s Office says they tried to use a drone to smuggle contraband into Washington State Prison late Friday night.
According to Sheriff Joel Cochran, a deputy patrolling near the prison saw and heard a drone flying overhead. The deputy followed the drone as it flew west and eventually located a suspicious vehicle on West Brown Drive with its lights on.
Following an investigation, authorities arrested 24-year-old Travis Simmons and 29-year-old Traquarious Hester, both of Macon. They are charged with two counts each of the following felonies:
- Use of an unmanned aircraft to accomplish violations
- Possession of drug-related objects
- Items prohibited for possession by inmates (tobacco)
- Items prohibited for possession by inmates
- Possession of promethazine hydrochloride
- Possession of marijuana with intent to distribute
