Severe weather nationwide: Floods, fires, and travel disruptions coast to coast
Tens of millions of Americans are either bracing for severe weather or recovering from its destructive aftermath.

(CNN)- Tens of millions of Americans are either bracing for severe weather or recovering from its destructive aftermath. In the Northeast, overnight flooding left a trail of damage. New Jersey is now under a state of emergency, and in New York, floodwaters inundated subway stations, damaging some train cars. One man was rescued from a flooded suburban area, while other drivers in the Bronx made the critical decision to turn around.
Air travelers are also feeling the impact. The FAA is warning of weather-related disruptions in New York, Washington, and Boston. In southern Pennsylvania, officials report numerous water rescues following torrential rain. Lancaster County alone saw seven inches of rainfall in under five hours. Nearby, Maryland and Washington, D.C. were in the core threat zone overnight.
Further west, the Grand Canyon region is facing a different kind of threat — fire. A historic lodge has been reduced to ashes by a fast-moving wildfire. “It’s just really devastating,” said Lena Fowler, a Coconino County Supervisor in Arizona. Tom Sulpizio with the Grand Canyon Historical Society said the loss is significant: “It’s taking a big chunk of the park and taking it offline for at least a couple of years.”
In Utah, the Monroe Fire continues to spread. Officials are focused on protecting structures and ensuring public safety. And in central Texas, flood recovery continues after catastrophic storms killed more than 100 people. “We have seen the best of humanity,” said Kerr County Commissioner Rich Paces. “We truly see God’s hand at work.”
