Secretary of State Encourages Macon Seniors to Register to Vote

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) Students at Central High School in Macon got a lesson in voter registration from the Secretary of State himself.

Georgia Secretary of State, Brian Kemp, made a stop at the high school this morning to tell seniors how easy it is to register to vote. He also encouraged them to not only get involved in the process, but get informed.

“Make sure you know who you’re voting for, what you’re voting for don’t just go vote in the presidential race, learn about who your school board members are that may be on the ballot cause they’re decisions are going to be affecting your lives even you’re only 18 years old,” says Kemp.

Central senior, Christine Okaro, says she enjoyed hearing the state is catering to her generation by allowing voters to register online.

“Many of us we have smart phones, I-phones, I-pads. We use those everyday and I’m glad the state of Georgia has been able to understand that,” says Okaro.

The students also got to ask Kemp questions about the election and registration process. The last day to register to vote for the November general election is October 9th.
