Three killed in shooting at Seattle Center food festival

At least three people were killed and several others were hospitalized after a mass shooting Sunday at Seattle Center,

(CNN)- At least three people were killed and several others were hospitalized after a mass shooting Sunday at Seattle Center, about a block from the city’s iconic Space Needle.

The shooting happened during an annual food festival featuring hundreds of local vendors and live music performances.

Witnesses described hearing multiple rounds of gunfire before crowds began fleeing the area. One person working at Seattle Center said he jumped a fence and ran as families and children rushed away from the festival.

Some witnesses reported hearing seven or eight shots, while another said he heard at least two dozen.

Several people were taken to the hospital following the shooting, including a 2-year-old child. Harborview Medical Center said late Sunday that all of the patients it received suffered gunshot wounds.

Local police and first responders rushed to the scene following the gunfire. Officers from several other agencies, including the FBI, also responded.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.
