Safety tips to keep in mind while celebrating the 4th of July
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Are you getting ready to celebrate 4th of July this week? Before you light up the sparklers or start the grill, there are some safety tips you should know. Katie Smoak from Community Health Works stopped by Daybreak with more.
Smoak said if you’re outside this holiday weekend, make sure you are wearing at least SPF 15 sunscreen. She suggests you also drink plenty of water.
If you’re grilling or cooking out, Smoak said you want to avoid cross contamination. She also said you should wash your hands and work on clean surfaces.
If you’re going swimming, make sure you know how to swim before getting into the water. Smoak said you should never dive head first in water. If you go out boating, Smoak said you should wear a life jacket and avoid alcohol use.
And you can’t have the 4th of July without fireworks. Smoak said you should never let children play with fireworks, keep a bucket of water nearby, and only light one at a time.
