Rutland High No Longer a ‘Priority’ School

Rutland High School Principal Dr. Jerri Hall says her school is making academic progress.

A news conference at Rutland High was held to announce the Georgia Department of Education released the school off its “priority” list, which means the school is no longer considered a low achievement school.

The big announcement came after the state sent an email to Hall.

“One thing that made the biggest difference was we offered students the support they needed, whether it was before school, after school, during school, on Saturdays and on holidays during the summer,” says Hall.

Bibb County Interim Superintendant Dr. Steven Smith says the accomplishment is the epitome of teamwork, and all Bibb County schools have their work cut out for them.

“We’re off that priority list right now, but that doesn’t mean the race is over. We still have room for improvement in all of our schools, so we’ll continue to work and build on the things we’ve done in the past,” says Smith.

Hall added for any school on the “priority” list, the first step is to ask for help from your local board of education.
