Ukraine launched a drone attack that struck an apartment building and killed a Russian civilian, according to the region’s governor. Russian forces also carried out an airstrike that officials said killed two Ukrainians. The renewed fighting followed a weekend of diplomatic efforts involving U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

The two met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow before traveling to Kyiv for talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

NBC News Chief Foreign Correspondent Richard Engel questioned Kushner about the prospects for the latest round of negotiations as fighting continues.

Kushner acknowledged the difficulty of the conflicts the administration is attempting to address and said the U.S. delegation remains committed to its diplomatic efforts. A limited ceasefire was in effect during the diplomatic visit, according to Engel, but it has since ended.

Air raid sirens could again be heard in Kyiv, with residents returning to subway stations for shelter as the attacks resumed.
