Runoff election underway in District 5 of Macon-Bibb County
Polling locations opened at 7 a.m., giving residents the opportunity to cast their ballots in the local race.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Voters in District 5 of Macon-Bibb County headed to the polls Tuesday for a runoff election between candidates Edward Foster and Andrea Cook.
According to Election Supervisor Thomas Gillon with the Macon-Bibb County Board of Elections, turnout has been relatively low so far.
As of mid-morning, Gillon reported a slow start at precincts, with just over 70 voters casting ballots in person by around 9 a.m. He also noted that approximately 300 voters participated during the early voting period last week.
“No issues so far, it’s been slow. As of about 9 o’clock, we had roughly 74 or so voters combined at the precincts, plus about 300 voters having voted early last week,” Gillon said. “This is our fourth election this year so far, so it could be a bit of voter fatigue. But I wish every election had 100% turnout. I don’t think there is an unimportant election, so I would encourage you, if you are in District 5, to come out and vote today.”
Gillon suggested voter fatigue may be playing a role, noting the number of elections already held this year. Despite the slow turnout, he emphasized the importance of civic participation.
Polls remain open until 7 p.m. Voters must bring a valid form of identification in order to cast a ballot.
