Rosa Jackson Center Set for Re-Grand Opening

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Residents in Macon is invited to the grand re-opening of the Rosa Jackson Community Center.

Tracy Colbert is working hard.

She’s putting the final touches on the new and improved Rosa Jackson Center.

Tracy’s worked for the Macon-Bibb Parks and Recreation Department for 24 years.

She’s seen both the good and bad at the center, and she’s happy to see improvements.

“Our money has transacted into the community and for people to bring them out and do things. Now we have a lot of free play, now we’ve got more structured stuff going on now,” Colbert said.

The new Rosa Jackson Center has a brand new basketball court, with moving bleachers, new scoreboard, baskets, and an LED backlit backboard.

The new facility is being paid for using penny sales tax dollars.

Raynard Fuller is one of the athletic coordinators at the center.

He thinks the upgrades will bring the community together.

“It means a lot to this community. I mean for 24 years, they’ve been begging and begging to get a new facility now they’ve got one. The community will take value and ownership of this facility that they have,” Fuller said.

Fuller is also working a brand new youth basketball program, and he says the kids will take full advantage of it.

“The thing is, coming from a small little box from the history of Rosa Jackson enlarging into a mega center is the best thing that can happen for this community,” Fuller said.

“Really it’s a beautiful sight to see. And we’re asking everyone to come out and see what we have to offer.” Colbert said.

You can get your first look at the new and improved Rosa Jackson Center, December 21, 2013 at the ribbon cutting ceremony beginning at 11:00 am.
