Robins Air Force Base retiree pronounced dead after I-75 accident

MACON, Georgia  (41NBC/WMGT ) – A utility truck driver died after running into the back of a stranded tractor trailer truck.

The fatal accident happened Wednesday around 9:45 a.m., in a north bound lane of Interstate 75, near the Hartley Bridge exit, according to Bibb County Sheriff’s Lt. Randy Gonzalez.

A Warner Robins man, 66-year-old Linwood Gantt Jr., was killed as a result of the accident, according to Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones. Gantt was also a Robins Air Force retiree, added Jones.

The driver of the Nestle tractor trailer , 39-year- old Aaron Demound of Florida told deputies he had mechanical problems and was unable to move the truck. Demound said he turned on his emergency flashers to warn drivers he was unable to move, said Gonzalez.

Moments later the utility truck slammed into the tractor trailer, he added.

Jones said Gantt was a member of St. Luke Church in Forsyth and was on his way to the church to repair an air conditioning unit when the accident occurred.

Gantt was taken to Medical Center of Central Georgia where he was pronounced dead.

Demound was not injured in the accident.
