Robins Air Force Base receives federal environmental award

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Robins Air Force Base received the 2015 Secretary of Defense Environmental Award for Environmental Quality.

The award recognizes teams that support mission readiness through their environmental activities. The 78th Civil Engineer Group Environmental Management Branch implemented a recycling program that diverts more than 2,200 tons of recyclables from landfills every year. The unit also started a community-partnered transportation incentive program and a robust water quality program that manages 549 million gallons of wastewater per year.

“Our organization won this DOD Environmental Quality Industrial Installation Award in 2013, so this is ‘back-to-back’ recognition. It truly takes a team of dedicated people and installation partnering to excel at this level,” said Otis Hicks, the 78th CEG Director.
