Roberta Police: 8-year-old boy released from hospital after shooting, 2 adults charged
Police say the boy accidentally shot himself on Sunday while inside an unattended vehicle parked in a driveway.

ROBERTA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — An 8-year-old boy is now out of the hospital after police say he accidentally shot himself in the leg with a handgun on Sunday while inside an unattended vehicle parked in a driveway.
According to Roberta Police, officers responded to 541 Leamon Gibson Road just before 5:30 p.m. and found the boy shot in the lower left leg. An ambulance took him to Beverly Knight Olson Children’s Hospital in Macon, where doctors determined surgery was not necessary. The boy was kept for observation before being released.
On Tuesday, officers revealed the boy’s mother, 29-year-old Mykiera Colbert, was charged with second degree cruelty to children. 29-year-old Brandon Searcy, whose relationship to the boy was not revealed, was charged with reckless conduct with a firearm.
Police continue to investigate with assistance from Crawford County DFACS.
