Restaurant Report Card: Papouli’s
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Happiness isn’t actually written on the menu at Papouli’s.
“We just love to make food. That gives us our joy,” said owner Kathye Patras.
But food that makes you feel like a happy family definitely is.
Papouli’s food is straight from the Patras family’s table.
“95-98% of everything is homemade,” said Patras.
Patras still shows the passion her and her late husband George started with when they opened Papouli’s in 1986–starting with a recent renovation and grand re-opening.
“My husband when he was passing away said the very last thing he said was make sure you get that renovation done and he had already been going through some of the plans so we really wanted to do this for him,” said Patras.
Customers feel the Greek hospitality that comes from Kathye and George’s family.
“We had a couple from Waycross Georgia that had asked for my husband,” said Patras. “They’ve been coming for 22 years and they always stop and he would sit and talk with them and that’s the kind of atmosphere we like.”
The health inspection means it’s clean like your mother’s table.
“I’m always like you didn’t wash this or that’s greasy over there or how bout touching that up a little bit? That’s one of my biggest pet peeves is leave a place dirty,” said Patras.
Papouli’s is making the grade this week, but here are a couple of restaurants that need to step it up this week.
McDonald’s on Pio Nono Avenue scored a 72.

Employees didn’t know about having to report their health condition, some of the temperatures for the food weren’t correct and they had multiple flies inside the restaurant.
