Restaurant Report Card: Bluetick Mercantile Co.

FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bluetick Mercantile Co. might just have some of the freshest food in all of Monroe County. The breakfast and lunch restaurant in downtown Forysth is cooking up all kinds of good, organic foods in an historic building that was build in the 1800’s.

“The building itself goes back a long way, it’s been a bank, it’s been an opera house upstairs,” Bluetick’s co-owner, Alicia Record said. “Something like this you can’t build anymore so to be able to preserve everything you can and make it something now and new it’s pretty exciting so it was important.”

Record owns and runs it with her friend and head chef, Shawn Mentzer. He’ll tell you cooking is more than a day job.

“It’s the one thing that I always came back home to so when Alicia and I had the opportunity to open up a place I had to take it,” Mentzer said.

Mentzer and Record both play an important role in the kitchen, handling much of the cooking, baking and desserts. They both put a big emphasis on freshness.

“We wanted to be able to feed people that way, without all the chemicals and pesticides, we seek out farmers and try to stay local,” Record said.

First let’s take a look at your scores this week:

Bluetick Mercantile Co. is big on accountability – there’s a reason its kitchen is see-through.

And with its shop, coffee, sandwiches, casseroles, homemade bread and desserts, Bluetick has a perfect health inspection score!

“Nobody wants to eat at a place where you see stuff all over the place,”Record.
