Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia hosts its annual Christmas dinner

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- Since 1952, Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia has been serving Christmas dinner to the community.

“We love them, we pray with them, and just hope to give them a little of the Christmas Spirit,” Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia Executive Director Erin Reimer said.

About one-thousand people felt the Christmas spirit with a warm, free meal.  Turkey, green beans, ham, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie and other foods were on the menu.

“I thank God for this Christmas meal, thank the rescue mission to,” a man who did not want to be identified said.

Most of the food was donated.

Adult volunteers prepared the plates of food/  The children volunteers served the guests.

“It feels nice for them to get a good meal for Christmas Eve,” volunteer Dixiana Sims replied.

Organizers also delivered almost 600 meals to residents who could not come to Wednesday’s event. Regardless of the location, volunteers wanted people to know they cared.

“We couldn’t do this without the heart of those individuals,” Reimers told us.

Until next year, the Rescue Mission plans to keep serving Middle Georgia, warming their hearts and their stomachs.
