Rescue Mission Feeds Hundreds for Christmas Eve

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Today, there was plenty of Christmas spirit and a ton of home-cooked food spread around at the Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia.

The group served up a holiday feast for hundreds of needy people in our area.

“We delivered over 500 meals this morning to elderly and disabled in the community who could not get here for this sit down meal, and we anticipate serving about 400 meals in house today,” says Executive Director of the Rescue Mission, Erin Reimers.

More than 100 volunteers helped out by prepping the holiday meal a week ago, and dished-up traditional favorites like: turkey, ham, green beans, mashed potatoes and stuffing.

“The stuffing was definitely my best choice as far as I’m concerned,” says guest Mitch Bishop.

Bishop has been homeless for more than a year, but believes this season is the time to focus on the love of God, and hope for a better future with his peers.

He believes “for everyone to be together and congregate with a smile on their face…it’s probably the most peace you’ll ever feel.”

“To be able to provide them with a meal just to help out, and a little bit of hope here, which is what we do here at the Rescue Mission…that’s a good feeling we all enjoy,” says Reimers.

The Rescue Mission leaders plan to host the next mass feeding on Easter Sunday 2014.
