Renovated tennis center reopens in Macon

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A tournament will start Friday at the newly renovated John Drew Tennis Center.

SPLOST dollars paid for the $1.2 million dollar project. It includes new locker rooms, restrooms and four new courts for children under 8. County Tennis Manager Carl Hodge said the sport can play a big role in helping students get a better education.

“Most of these kids here are playing collegiate tennis, they came back to visit with us during this event. So they’re on scholarships throughout the country. Some of the kids that you see here are playing to compete. They play State, Regional, National events,” said Hodge.

Hodge said tennis is a great economic generator for the county when tournaments are hosted.
