Reducing Childhood Obesity in Pleasant Hill

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- For individuals who would like to feed their kids healthier foods for less, reduce the frequency of doctor visits, and improve their kids’ school performance, there will be a special workshop going on this weekend aimed at raising awareness of childhood obesity. Over the past 30 years, the rate of obesity in the United States has more than tripled for children between the ages of 5 and 11. President of Phitness Plus, Haywood Simmons will be in charge of the workshop. Haywood said there are several ways to do deal with childhood obesity.

“We want them to get that there is another way versus dealing with illness or sitting back and kind of waiting for these things to happen… there are some things you can do to prevent it,” said Haywood Simmons.

The Power to Prevent Obesity Workshop will be this Saturday at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church. The workshops start at 10am and will end at 2pm. The event is sponsored by the Pleasant Hill Shalom Zone Neighborhood Health Services.

The workshops will serve children and families who live in the Pleasant Hill Community.
