Protesters rally against two downtown Macon businesses
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Several protesters held up signs against two downtown Macon businesses.
The group tells 41NBC in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., they want to boycott the Dunkin’ Donuts and Which Wich on Forsyth Street. The restaurants replaced the Douglass House and the old Tremont Temple Baptist Church.
Dr. King spoke at the church during the civil rights movement.
“Both of those things have been lost forever because of the profit of one group that expects people to come and buy from them. They are looking to exploit money from our community after they have destroyed our historic treasures,” George Muhammad, one of the protesters, said.
Muhammad says he hopes people will boycott the businesses and become more conscious about preserving Macon’s history.
