Power Fault Causes Pressure Surge and Water Break in Macon

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A power fault has caused a ‘pressure surge’ and water break on Mercer University Drive, near Florence Street.

Friday morning, Macon Water Authority Assistant Executive Director Ray Shell said one of the high service pumps that is used to supply water and pressure to the city had a malfunction. The control for the computer operated pump had a power fault. The second pump that automatically kicked in to take over is what caused the pressure surge.

MWA Collection System Manager Darryl Macy said nearby businesses and residences should not experience any issues, however if the water is shut off it will not be for more than two hours.

MWA is asking motorists and pedestrians to be careful around the area as repair crews will be out working to fix the problem.
