Police identify man who shot at Georgia officer

ATLANTA, Georgia (AP) – Police in Georgia identified the man who they say shot at a Roswell police officer as 21-year-old Victor Alonzo Majia Nunez. Officer Brian McKenzie was not injured.

Police in Roswell say that McKenzie is white. Majia Nunez’s race was not immediately clear. He was taken into custody after a brief police chase. He has not been charged yet, but police say he likely will be charged with aggravated assault on the officer. The suspect lives in Riverdale.

Police said a motive for the shooting wasn’t immediately clear, and that Majia Nunez is speaking with investigators but his cooperation has been limited.

The shooting happened a few hours after five police officers were killed and several others wounded in a Dallas sniper attack.
