Perry to step up police patrols after vandals hit cemetery

PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Perry city officials say they aren’t putting up fences around a popular cemetery, even after vandals destroyed several headstones.

Mayor Jimmy Faircloth tells 41NBC, someone is breaking headstones and tombstones at Evergreen Cemetery near downtown Perry.

City council recently discussed putting a gate around the area, but Faircloth says it’ll cost too much money.

He says the incidents haven’t happened often and believes until he has reasons for further concern, he’s asking the Perry Police Department to step up patrols in the area.
