Perdue Farms donates land for new Houston County fire station

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Houston County Fire Department is getting ready to break ground on a new fire station.

Perdue Farms is donating more than four acres of land to the department for the new station. It’s off highway 247 near the Perdue Chicken Plant in Perry.

The department realized it doesn’t have a station close to that area after firefighters responded to a fire at the company in July.

“It allows us to come in and really do what we’re here for which is to get out in the community, be where we need to be to serve the folks and give better service,” explained Houston County Fire Chief Jimmy Williams.

Fire officials hope the new station will open at the end of the year.
