Pedestrian hit and killed in Macon
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A man died Sunday night after he was hit by a car and killed in Macon.
Macon – Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones says it happened on Liberty Church road near Hawkinsville Road, just after 10 p.m. Sunday.
The man has been identified as 70 year old Gary Alden Runkles.
Deputies with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office say a 2015 Scion driven by David Alvord hit Runkles as he was traveling northbound on Hawkinsville Road. Witnesses say Runkles was lying in the roadway before Alvord hit him. Deputies say Alvord did not see Runkles lying in the roadway until it was too late and hit him.
Runkles was pronounced dead by the county coroner at the scene at 10:45 p.m. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday to determine if the he was hit by multiple vehicles.
The accident is currently being investigated and no charges have been made at this time. Anyone with information about this accident is asked to contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500.
