Peach County voters approve ESPLOST

FORT VALLEY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Peach County residents overwhelmingly voted in favor to continue the education penny sales tax.

The Peach County Board of Elections Office tells 41NBC 1,379 people voted yes for the ESPLOST and 902 voted against it. Elections officials say voter turnout for the special election was low; about 15%.

The money raised will be used to build a new high school as well as facility maintenance to other schools. The school board approved more than 170 acres of land closer to Byron and the goal is to create a more central location for the school.
