Peach County principal hand-delivers appeal letter to GHSA

FORT VALLEY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Peach County High School has submitted its appeal letter to the Georgia High School Association and is waiting for a response.

The school is appealing the outcome of the GHSA AAA Championship Game Friday in Atlanta in which the Trojans fell to Calhoun 10-6. The play in question happened late in the fourth quarter. Peach County appeared to score a touchdown on a 4th down pass, but the referee instead ruled the pass incomplete.

PCHS principal Ken Hartley tells 41NBC he hand-delivered a three-page letter to the GHSA office in Thomaston Monday.

A change in the game’s outcome is unlikely based on the GHSA’s 2017-18 Constitution. By-law 2.92-g on page 44 of the constitution reads: “Judgement calls by contest officials are not reviewable or reversible.”

“If this is not an appealable case, we are requesting a meeting with the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) Board of Trustees as soon as possible to plead our case.” the letter reads. “We are requesting a written response from the GHSA Board of Trustees as soon as possible to resolve this matter.”

41NBC also reached out to GHSA executive director Dr. Robin Hines for a response. We have not heard back.
