Pate Road overpass in Monroe County closed
A tractor trailer overturned Sunday morning on I-75 northbound, blocking all lanes. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said a Toyota Venza crashed into the trailer shortly after. The driver and passenger of the Venza pulled the driver of the trailer to safety. The trailer caught fire under the Pate Road overpass. Monroe Officials said the driver of the trailer was taken to the hospital.
I-75 is open again, but the fire caused the overpass to crack. The Georgia Department of Transportation closed the overpass until it can make repairs. Officials expect this to take a few weeks.
Monroe and Bibb County Sheriff’s Deputies will help direct traffic Monday, September 21. Officials advise people who typically use the Pate Road overpass to find an alternate route. They expect high traffic areas to be New Forsyth Road, Rivoli Road, and Pate Road at Hwy 87.
