Panel Address Overcoming Challenges at Teen Summit
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Community leaders told more than 100 teenagers they were speaking from their hearts as they encouraged them to become successful in life.
A panel made up of government, civic and church leaders, shared their mistakes they made growing up. Word of Salvation Ministries held its first, “Let’s Talk About It Teen Summit,” Saturday.
The organizer of the summit, Trecia Sutton, said the purpose of the event is to encourage teenagers to be true to the work of Christ, by being faithful young people, and servants of God.
“We were allowed to share with the youth our stories,” said Sutton. “To paint a picture of our lives growing up here in Macon, Georgia, and to really talk to them and let them see our hearts. Of, how we weren’t perfect, when we started out. But, because of God’s plan and will for our lives, that it all worked out for the good.”
Panel guest spoke candidly about some of the challenges they faced growing up.
The event was free and the teens were treated to lunch.
Sutton said she is planning to host the summit again next year. She hopes they will have even more panel guests and more teens to attend in 2014.
