Overcast skies return Friday

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Cloud cover will return overnight Thursday as the next weathermaker approaches going into the weekend.
The Rest of the Evening
Partly cloudy skies will give way to mostly cloudy skies as the sun sets tonight. It will be rather mild with low temperatures only expected to drop into the mid 50s. Wind will come from the southeast at around 5-10 mph, so some patchy fog will be possible. No rain is expected tonight, however.
Tomorrow
Skies will be overcast for our Friday afternoon save for a couple of small pockets of sunshine. Highs will reach the mid 70s for most of the region with wind coming from the southeast at 7-16 mph. Gusts could push upwards of 25 mph, especially later in the evening. A few showers will be possible during the day, however thunderstorms are not expected.
Overnight more widespread rain is likely, especially in the northern counties. It will be very warm overnight courtesy of a warm front coming through with low temperatures largely only falling into the low to mid 60s. Winds will continue to be rather strong as they shift from the southeast to the southwest at 5-20 mph, gusting upwards of 30 mph. Flooding will also be a concern, and a Flood Watch is in effect for the northern half of the region until 1 AM Sunday morning.
Saturday and Beyond
The cold front associated with this weekend’s system will pass Saturday, bringing more heavy rain in the form of thunderstorms throughout the day. The SPC has issued a Level 2 “Slight” risk for the entire region (and most of the Peach State). Primary risks will include strong winds and a couple of isolated tornadoes. These strong winds could also lead to some trees being blown over as the ground is saturated courtesy of the two major rains over the past week; blocking roads or knocking out power. Unfortunately, the cold air wedge will not be there to protect Georgians this time around, so we need to be weather aware Saturday.
Storms should subside in the evening with skies remaining mostly cloudy overnight. They will work to clear out more Sunday with mostly clear skies expected by Sunday night. Don’t forget this Saturday night that we will lose an hour as Daylight Saving Time takes back over.
