One dead, one in burn center after overnight Crawford County fire

BYRON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – One person is in the Augusta burn center after a fatal fire in Crawford County Wednesday night.

Chief Randall Pate from the Crawford County Fire Department said the names of the victims aren’t being released yet.

The fire happened around 7 p.m. Wednesday at a home on Wellington Drive near Byron in Crawford County.

Two people were inside the home. A bystander helped get one person out. This person was taken to the burn center in Augusta. The other victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Chief Pate said the home was fully engulfed in flames from one end to the other. It took firefighters about two hours to put it out. Chief Pate doesn’t suspect any foul play.

The state Fire Marshall and the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office are helping with the investigation.
