Old grenade unearthed in Jeffersonville Road area

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)— The Jeffersonville Road area was briefly closed off after a a suspicious device that was thought to be explosive was reported to the Bibb County Sheriff’s office.

Monday morning around 9:35 a.m. construction workers dug up an old grenade and alerted authorities immediately. The Bibb Sheriff’s Bomb Disposal Unit carefully examined and removed the old military style grenade from the area.

It was believed that the grenade may have been left-over ordinance from the former Camp Wheeler.

The area was deemed safe and Jeffersonville Road was opened up again about an hour later
