Officer-involved shooting in Dooly County leaves woman dead, deputy injured

At 2 a.m. on April 4, the Turner County Sheriff’s Office began assisting with a car chase that started in Cook County.

DOOLY COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A woman is dead and a deputy is injured following an officer-involved shooting Friday in Dooly County, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).

At 2 a.m. on April 4, the Turner County Sheriff’s Office began assisting with a car chase that started in Cook County. The Cook County Sheriff’s Office had attempted to stop a Cadillac sedan for speeding more than 100 mph on Interstate 75. The chase continued for several miles before ending in the northbound lanes near Exit 109 in Dooly County, where law enforcement used a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle.

Deputies approached the car and attempted to make contact with the driver. The driver began shooting at deputies, striking one of them. Deputies returned fire, and the driver was shot. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The deputy was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
