Ocmulgee Alive promotes clean up effort on Saturday

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Ocmulgee Alive event organizer, Mark Wyzalek, said the effort to clean up the Ocmulgee River began in 2004 with only 35 volunteers.

Since then, that number has grown to more than 350.

Even though there has been a decrease in trash in the river, the trash from the streets eventually washes into the river, according to Wyzalek.

“The Ocmulgee River is a source of our drinking water in Macon and it’s important to take care of that river. What we do here is get folks out on the river, learn to appreciate the beauty of the river, and make a real positive change to the river too,” said Wyzalek.

The Ocmulgee Alive River Clean-Up is this Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
