MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The final day of diurnal thunderstorms have left and now we finally have a set up for a dry period as high pressure pushes cooler and drier air down the Screenshot 2026 06 03 035128Screenshot 2026 06 03 034812Screenshot 2026 06 03 034858Screenshot 2026 06 03 034913

spine of the Appalachians. Today’s coverage looks to be less than we’ve seen over the past few days, with a few storms across the extreme southern part of the state capable of producing strong gusty winds and small hail.  Temperatures and dewpoints are noticeably lower. Highs in the mid to low 70s and over 45 degree dewpoints will make it feel more like fall than the beginning of June. Expect plenty of  sunshine and no chance for afternoon thunderstorms should make it a perfect day to get outside. This trend will continue into the long term. weather continues across North and Middle Georgia into the start of the weekend. Temperatures will be around normal with highs in the low 80s, but dewpoints in the 50s will make things feel much less humid. High pressure over the Southeast and a mid-level ridge over the Tennessee Valley will keep winds generally out of the north to northeast,  ushering in a very dry airmass. This will keep rain chances near zero across the area skies from Thursday through Saturday. From Sunday through early next week, the pattern shifts as the ridge gets pushed east by a trough moving into the Southern Plains. Winds will turn out of the south southwest in response, bringing a warm and humid airmass back in from over the Gulf. Models still have some notable spread on how quickly this switch will happen, but the consensus is that it would begin on Sunday, with rain and thunderstorm chances each day through early next week. At this time, models are depicting a pattern that would support typical summertime thunderstorms, with no widespread severe weather or flooding threats.
