MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Students in Bibb County’s Northeast High School zone will participate in asynchronous learning on Tuesday, December 17, as Northeast High School’s football team makes its first appearance in the GHSA Class A-Division I state championship game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

The Raiders beat Fitzgerald 46-14 in front of a jam-packed Thompson Stadium Friday night to advance.

The Bibb County School District announced the move on Tuesday. It affects students at Northeast High School, Bernd Elementary, Burdell-Hunt Elementary, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary and Appling Middle School. Teachers will provide assignments and materials in advance, and students will complete assignments from home.

“We are excited and recognize the importance of this historical opportunity for the Eastside as Northeast High School participates in the state championship game,” the district said in an email. “While we are excited, we have an obligation to ensure appropriate measures and guidance are in place for our community to attend the game or remain in Macon, based on personal choice.”

Students attending the game must do so at their own expense; the district is not providing transportation. Purchase tickets to the game here.

Students outside the Northeast High School zone will report to their schools as usual. Absences for these students must have supporting documentation to be excused.

The GHSA state championship games will be broadcast live on Georgia Public Broadcasting and streamed on GPB.org and NFHSNetwork.com. Fans can also listen to radio broadcasts on 680 The Fan family of stations. 41NBC will have coverage from the game that night on 41NBC News.
