MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The Northeast Raiders football team is preparing for their Week 1 matchup against the Peach County Trojans Friday night.

The game, part of the first Gridiron Classic at Fort Valley State University’s Wildcat Stadium, is set for an 8 p.m. kickoff.

Entering his seventh season, Northeast head coach Jeremy Wiggins is focusing on a strong ground game and stopping the run on defense.

“Preparation is just getting ready to get in season mode,” Wiggins said during Monday’s practice. “Last week was the scrimmage, so you’re still trying to see what you look like, what you are going to be doing. It should be a good game. I’ve been talking to (Peach County Coach Marquis) Westbrook, and we are looking forward to putting on a good match up. This will be a good test for us before we go into region play.”

Senior offensive and defensive Lineman Zantavius Towles is eager to start his final season.

“It feels great,” Towles said. “I’m ready to go. We are playing in front of a huge crowd out there at Fort Valley, so I’m really excited for it, and to see all what we can put together as a team, and just dominate.”

41NBC will have live pre-game coverage from Fort Valley Friday night during 41NBC News at 5, 5:30 and 6. Catch the highlights of our Game of the Week and more games on The End Zone during 41NBC News at 11.
