No snow for Middle Georgia, just heavy rain and cold temps

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)– The rain has started to fall on Middle Georgia this late afternoon and early evening.  There has been more than 1/4 of an inch already, and much more is coming.  41 First Alert Chief Meteorologist Chris Simmons is forecasting around 1 to 1.5 inches of rain by Thursday morning.

The temperatures will be low and cold, but not nearly enough to produce anything frozen, just rain.  We will see temperatures in the upper 30’s and low 40’s for now, but it will cool to the low to mid 30’s overnight for most of the area.  Our southern counties will stay in the low 40’s for the most part.  The rain will begin to exit the area Thursday morning.

Traveling up I-75 will not be a fun tonight.  The rain will change to snow as you get to Atlanta starting this evening.  The city itself will have the chance to see 1 to 2 inches of snow, but much heavier amounts will be likely on the north side of the city and further north into North Georgia.  Snow amounts will likely reach the 3-6″ range, with some locally higher amounts.  Travel will not be advised later tonight.
