No. 23 GC baseball out-gunned by Valdosta State, 15-8
After giving up six over the first two innings, digging a 6-1 hole, the Bobcats battled back to make it 6-4 after scoring runs on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly in the fourth. VSU quickly exploded for nine combined runs over the fifth and sixth innings to take over the game for good.
Centerfielder Rob Hogenkamp (St. Louis) went 3-for-4 with two doubles, plating one run and scoring another. Rightfielder Jake Sandlin (Evans, Ga.) added a pair of hits in four trips, scoring twice.
Catcher Steve Hazel (Kentwood, Mich.) rounded out the multi-hit efforts for the Bobcats, going 2-for-5 with a run and RBI. Third baseman Mike McGraw (Newnan, Ga.) tallied two RBI.
Starter Josh Pape (Locust Grove, Ga.) took the first loss of his Bobcat career (2-1), while Blazer reliever Zakk White (1-3) picked up his first win of the season in 2 2/3 innings of work. Georgia College relievers Micah Thompson (Tallapoosa, Ga.), Jordan Modine (Ft. Pierce, Fla.) and Jordan Brooks (Macon, Ga.) combined for 5 1/3 innings of scoreless relief for the Bobcats.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, April 18 at 6 p.m., hosting Young Harris College.
