No. 23 Bobcat baseball beats Young Harris, 8-6
First baseman Clay Ardeeser (Loganville, Ga.) had a three-run double as part of Georgia College’s six-run second inning, breaking a scoreless tie. Ardeeser finished with four RBI on a 2-for-5 game.
Young Harris battled back from the 6-0 deficit, and after six innings, the Bobcats only led 7-6.
Centerfielder Rob Hogenkamp (St. Louis) provided a huge insurance run in the eighth, singling home pinch runner John Welborn (Locust Grove, Ga.) for the 8-6 lead.
Righty starter Spencer Thomas (Loganville, Ga.) went eight innings in the win, allowing five earned runs on nine hits and a walk with four strikeouts. Thomas improves to 4-0 on the season. Jordan Modine (Ft. Pierce, Fla.) tossed a scoreless ninth for his third save of the season.
Hogenkamp finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run, while shortstop Daniel Bick (Alpharetta, Ga.) had two hits in four trips with a run scored. Second baseman Brandon Benson (Loganville, Ga.) also went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run, while designated hitter Colton Montgomery (Cartersville, Ga.) finished 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI.
The loss went to YHC starter Justin Cooper (4-5) in seven innings of work. Leadoff hitter Josh Rudnik was 2-for-4 with four RBI and a home run.
The Bobcat victory snapped a six-game losing streak for Georgia College.
The Bobcats and Mountain Lions finish the three-game set with doubleheader action tomorrow, April 21 at 1 p.m.
