New trash pick up proposal includes increase in Macon-Bibb taxpayer fees
Kevin Barkley explained right now, solid waste picks up recycling in the former city and Advanced Disposal Services picks up recycling in the former county. Advanced Disposal Services is a national trash pick up company. Barkley said Macon-Bibb has worked with ADS for several years.
The new plan would let ADS pick up all the garbage, while the county would handle all recycling. The county would also be responsible for “bulky” waste like tree limbs and furniture. If approved, the plan would increase fees for taxpayers.
“If you’re a former city customer paying $15 or a former county customer paying $12.75 we’re trying to raise those fees to $20,” explained Barkley.
Barkley said letting the county pick up all recycling helps his ultimate goal of creating a recycling facility by 2020 in Macon-Bibb. He added the county’s Operation and Finance Committee passed the plan Tuesday. Full commission will vote on it at its meeting next Tuesday.
