New Taylor County Superintendent Sets High Expectations for 2014

BUTLER, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Taylor County Board of Education welcomed Doctor Gary Gibson at the beginning of 2014, and he has big plans for the school system.

Gibson officially started on January 1st, and as the new superintendent of Taylor County. He wants to be known as a man of integrity, character and equality.

“It’s hard to be fair about everything, because it’s different ways the money can be used, and different programs. You have to weight things differently, but hopefully there’s equity in what I do,”

says Gibson.

He taught kids in elementary school all the way up to college, and held several athletic administrative positions. Plus, when he is not busy making new plans for the district, he’s preaching in the pulpit.

“Good districts have great academics, great fine arts and great athletics.”

Before Gibson can turn his plans into reality, his team intends to improve school facilities and literary programs, and revamp all math and science courses.

“It’s the first time in history public schools-in this country-are really competing. And so, we’re being held to such high standards now. We’re like a business…we’ve got to put out a good product,” says Gibson.

So, what does he expect for himself? Gibson hopes to see many years as the county’s superintendent.

“You know, if I can keep Gary out of way, then I’ll see the needs of others.”

Gibson is waiting on the Governor’s new budget for the county, so the board can begin dividing the money up for school improvements, and programming.
