New Study: Women aren’t Getting Mammograms

According to a study by medical professionals, nearly 50% of eligible women choose not to get their yearly mammograms.

The study surveyed a database of more than 12 million medical claims. Each woman in the study did in fact have medical insurance, which shows the lack of testing has nothing to do with being uninsured.

The data found that only 47% of 40-49 years old have a yearly mammogram. The number of routine mammograms did improve for 50-64 years old to 54%.Women older than 65 year old had the worst mammogram rate at 45%.

Last year, the U.S Preventative Services Task Force recommended the age of a first mammogram be lifted to 50 years old instead of 40, which could be affecting this data.
