New piece of art placed in downtown Macon
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – If you travel along Mulberry street in downtown Macon, be sure to check out a new piece of art.
The Macon Arts of Alliance unveiled the bronze stag Tuesday morning. The bronze deer is is sitting on a granite platform and it’s a little over five feet. The sculpture represents the area’s indigenous wildlife.
It’s one of many projects coming to downtown Macon in hopes of making the downtown area more attractive to its residents and visitors.
“We have had this empty platform for almost thirty years that now has a wonderful piece of art on it that thousands of citizens can enjoy every day. It adds beauty to our lives and a reminder of the great things that are happening today in downtown,” says Carey Pickard who is a volunteer with The Macon Arts of Alliance.
The Macon-Bibb Parks and Recreation installed the stag and it costed them $15,000. Macon Arts Alliance and Pickard partnered to secure a grant from the Downtown Challenge of the Community Foundation of Central Georgia to procure a vintage American bronze sculpture.
