New Perry Hotel to be featured on Travel Channel
PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – One middle Georgia hotel is being put in the national spotlight. The New Perry Hotel, and its owner Patty Johnson, will be on the Travel Channel as part of a hit show.
It all started with a phone call…
“I was a little leary about it, kind of skeptical, kind of nervous,” Johnson said.
Patty Johnson says she thought getting the go ahead from producers of “Resort Rescue” on the Travel Channel was a prank.
After some research and convincing she was all in.
“The whole concept of the ‘Resort Rescue’ is to find weaknesses and see what they can help you with,” Johnson said.
Help Johnson says she desperately needs.
She bought the hotel in October of 2011 — since then she says she’s barely breaking even.
“I decided to make this leap of faith and bring this old hotel back,” Johnson said.
It’s a revitalization effort Johnson intends to work on while continuing to keep the hotel’s charm.
Not only is she in charge of the hotel itself, but the restaurant that’s attached, the motel behind it….and the hotel’s bar.
“I saw it online. It really struck my interest it’s a beautiful hotel. I felt like there was so much potential there,” Johnson said.
Now Johnson hopes the national attention will bring more foot traffic to the 120 year old historic landmark.
“My goal with being on the Travel Channel is to let people know that the New Perry Hotel is still open,” Johnson said.
Still open…and close to Johnson’s heart….
“What we want to do and what we’re hoping to do with this is to let people see that it’s still here and that it’s still a beautiful hotel, and just bring the awareness back,” she said.
As she looks to continue bring back a part of history.
Johnson says the hotel is seeing decent numbers from fair-goers, but could stand to do better.
You can watch Patty, and see The New Perry Hotel Tuesday night at 10 p.m. on the Travel Channel…. Check your local listings.
